Obviously, this isn’t Mario Kart, but I’d definitely add its core mechanics and feel to top racers like Sega & Sonic All-Stars Racing and Crash Nitro Kart. Square Enix only cares about soulless cash grabs and mobile ports.As verified final fantasy obsessed, i’ve always been Chocobo Racing, the PS1 kart racer, is basically a lighthearted mashup of the series.Despite the announcement of the Chocobo Racing revival for the Nintendo 3DS, I was saddened – so naturally I was excited when Square Enix announced the news Chocobo GP, the new FF racing game for Switch. Squaresoft made games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 7. The main reason they’re doing it this way is money. You can’t tell me they couldn’t do the complete FF7 world in a similar manner.
And in any case, I have a hard time NOW believing that after seeing Horizon Zero Dawn. They claim they’re doing it in installments because recreating the entire game in one go would take forever and be too massive, I get that but if the next/other installments are this linear and threadbare then that’ll just further confirm how pitiful they’ve become. FF7 Remake was pretty decent, surprisingly, but incredibly short and linear. The new FF doesn’t look much better to be honest. And worst of all it just felt like a sometimes-interactive movie, like most of their games nowadays. 13 wasn’t any better, it was so linear and filled with clichés. Such a massive world with absolutely nothing to do in it. When I played 15 I was so confused at parts, because they literally left out part of the story. Then, when they FINALLY did release it, they literally removed the prologue of the game and made it a standalone DVD you had to buy. They stripped out so many key elements of the game and the removed it from the 13 “universe” (if you can even call it that) altogether. Game languished in development hell forever. Final Fantasy Versus 13 wait wait no 15 (🙄) was the last straw for me.
Every FF gets near-perfect scores despite them being FAR from perfect games. All of their games are shallow as fuck and it annoys me they continue to get good praise. Ever since Square merged with Enix everything they do is incredibly corporate and money-grubbing.
